MLS Training Celebrates Milestone: 1,000 Clinicians Trained in Life-Saving Mechanical Support Skills
MLS Training has celebrated the milestone of 1,000 healthcare professionals trained through its Mechanical Life Support (MLS) courses. Delivered in focused groups of 14, these courses equip clinicians with the specialist skills needed to manage complex mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices, including ventricular assist devices (VADs), Impella pumps, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). From new recruits to experienced cardiac centre staff, the milestone highlights the growing commitment to safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred mechanical support care.
The MLS course was developed to meet a critical need in modern intensive care. Mechanical circulatory and respiratory support has evolved from an experimental frontier to a cornerstone of cardiothoracic and critical care practice. Yet, with increasing device complexity comes the responsibility to train clinicians to handle life-threatening scenarios confidently. The course integrates guidance from national UK standards and combines hands-on simulation, structured algorithms, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure that staff can restore device function and manage emergencies with clarity and precision.
